DESCRIPTION:Join The Council of State Governments Justice Center on February 28 at 12 p.m. ET for a virtual event\ndiscussing community responder programs and their impact across the nation. With support from the\nJoyce Foundation\, “Sharing the Load: How to Empower and Leverage Diverse Expertise to Expand First\nResponse” will feature remarks from Chief John Moon of Freedom House Ambulance Service and\nPittsburgh EMS\, as well as a panel discussion from select members of the Expanding First Response\nNational Commission.\nThe panel of experts will speak about their efforts to enact community responder programs through\ncollaboration that brings together diverse voices and leaders. Many of these successful efforts will be\nhighlighted in the upcoming Expanding First Response National Commission report.\nFreedom House Ambulance Service\, led by Black community members in Pittsburgh\, PA\, pioneered\nemergency response and community responder efforts in Pittsburgh and the nation as one of America’s\nfirst emergency medical technicians. Chief Moon was also the first paramedic to perform an out-of-\nhospital endotracheal intubation. His work\, and the work of other leaders of Freedom House\, succeeded\nbecause they leveraged relationships within the community to expand first response in Pittsburgh using\ncommunity medical responders. \nComplimentary Registration HERE

This type of activism and organizing requires that Black Moms protect their greatest weapon in the fight… their mental health. 1M4 gives Moms a place to air their frustrations with recurring police violence\, create solutions that have measurable impact\, and prioritize their mental health to maintain peace of mind despite the chaos of inequality. With a background in Corporate Supply Chain Management\, emphasis on cost reduction and process improvement initiatives\, Tansy is a problem solver who simply wants to save Black lives and create a more equitable justice system. \nDamola Ogundipe | Founder & CEO\, Plural\nDamola Ogundipe is the Co-Founder and CEO of Plural (formerly Civic Eagle). Plural creates cutting-edge software to make it easy for public policy data to be discoverable\, interpretable\, and collaborative. Born in Lagos\, Nigeria\, Damola and his family immigrated to the US when he was six years old. From a young age\, Damola was interested in global perspectives\, politics\, and how the world is governed. Frustrated by the lack of civic engagement in the US\, Damola and his co-founders created Civic Eagle\, leveraging public-access data to create easy ways for global citizens to engage and express their opinions on how they want to be governed.

DESCRIPTION:In response to the persistent police violence against Black communities\, 1 Million Madly Motivated Moms (1M4)\, Right To Be (formerly Hollaback!)\, and ANJEL Tech have joined forces to offer free training Bystander Intervention: How to Safely Intervene and Respond in the face of Anti-Black-Police sponsored Violence \nThe 75-minute\, interactive training will train people on how to safely intervene and respond in the face of anti-Black police-sponsored violence and interact with guest speakers who are impacting the fight against police brutality. The training will focus on three of the 5Ds of bystander intervention: delegate\, document\, and delay. We’ll begin by reflecting on what anti-Black police-sponsored violence looks like and why it repeatedly exists. We’ll talk about the types of violence and racism Black people are facing right now — from examples of microaggressions to murder. We’ll also talk about how anti-Black racism is so ingrained into the fabric of our society that we see it present in all forms\, from everyday tasks or activities to larger societal institutions. Then\, discuss the deep impact harassment\, violence\, and the constant threat of violence has on Black communities.\nYou’ll learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities. The training will conclude with a practice and questions and answers section. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBe sure to join our email list so you are made aware of upcoming events\, weekly mental health insights and informed of our work towards an end police violence.

The training will focus on three of the 5Ds of bystander intervention: delegate\, document\, and delay. We’ll begin by reflecting on what anti-Black police-sponsored violence looks like and why it repeatedly exists. We’ll talk about the types of violence and racism Black people are facing right now — from examples of microaggressions to murder.
