As April showers start rolling in, we’re faced with more than just puddles.
The new month brings fresh storms, and unfortunately, the current administration’s recent move to pull federal funding for content that promotes “divisive, race-centered ideology,” including museums like the National Museum of African-American History and Culture.
But is it truly divisive, or is it simply raising awareness about this country’s dark and unjust history? We stand for the truth, not erasure.
With everything happening, it’s totally okay to feel frustrated and overwhelmed. But let’s also remember to take a step back. It’s important to focus on what we can control.
Instead of letting the chaos take over, let’s stay grounded so we can be ready when it’s time to act, stand together, and protect what truly matters: our village.
As Black women, we’ve long stepped up to lead and protect others. But during this International Black Women’s History Month, let’s remind ourselves that we deserve moments of rest too.
When you’re ready, there’s still work to do. And if you’re feeling up to it today, take the pledge to shield the village and share our directory with your loved ones and network—especially those in need of support during mental health crises.

“Change will not come if we wait for some other people or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
— President Barack Obama

A Mental Health Tip For You!
Sis, April is Stress Awareness Month, a time to focus on managing the stress we all experience. One simple and effective way to release stress that’s building up in your body is through tapping, also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).
This practice can help ease tension, calm your nervous system, and bring a sense of relaxation to your day. Here’s how to do it:
1. Find a quiet spot: Sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths.
2. Tapping points: Use your fingertips to gently tap on key acupressure points—like the side of your hand (the “karate chop” point), the top of your head, and just above your eyebrows.
3. Focus on the stress: As you tap, acknowledge the stress or tension you’re feeling, and breathe deeply.
4. Keep tapping for 1-2 minutes: This simple action can help calm the nervous system and release built-up tension.
It’s an easy, quick practice you can do anytime, anywhere. For more guidance, watch this video and try tapping to release tension and reconnect with a sense of calm!
Spread Some Blessings!
The consequences of police violence extend far beyond the loss of life. For families affected, it’s the loss of income, the sacrifice of basic necessities, and the start of a high-cost legal fight. If you have the capacity, consider donating to 1M4. Proceeds help support impacted families and sustain the work of 1M4 toward ending police violence for good.
Sistas, let’s stay grounded for the year ahead. We know the challenges this year will bring, and we’re not pretending it will be easy. But no matter what’s thrown our way, we’ve always found a way to rise together. The next months will require our strength and voices. But before we dive into the fight, we must first take care of ourselves. Rest is not a sign of weakness—it’s part of the strategy. As we move through this season of change, take a moment to breathe, center yourself, and remember: you don’t have to carry this burden alone. Lean on each other, our community, and the resources available to help you stand strong—like The Right Response, full of lifelines to support you through your toughest moments. |
