Hey Sis! We hope your holiday brought warmth, good food, and quality time with your loved ones. Now, let’s turn our gratitude into action as we approach other special moments like Giving Tuesday.

With a new Administration that plans to give police more immunity, the need to invest in non-police alternatives has never been more urgent.

That’s why we’re focused on protecting our loved ones, building safer systems, and strengthening our community. Here’s how you can help:

Giving Tuesday (Dec. 3) and End-of-Year Giving (by Dec. 31)

Donate by December 31st to support life-saving alternatives to police response and empower families to navigate crises safely. Every dollar counts, so help us reach our goal to raise $5,000 by the end of the year.

You can make an impact by donating personally or encouraging your corporation to contribute before the year ends. When companies support 1M4, they show they care about what matters to their employees.

Share our Right Response directory, a resource to help handle crises without police and keep families safe this season. We encourage you to use our partner toolkit with ready-to-share graphics and captions to post on your socials. Spread the word with your circle, especially Sistas who may need extra support right now.❤️

We’re done saving this country from itself. It’s time to focus on us, our families, and our futures.

Article of the Week

94 bullets. Officers fired 94 bullets at 25-year-old Jayland Walker in 2022.

No amount of money can replace his life. However, Jayland’s family will receive a settlement for his senseless and untimely death. Learn more about the settlement:

Jayland Walker’s family receives $4.8m from city of Akron over killing by police.

Note: the officers are back on duty. It is hard to use terms like “justice” and “accountability” so we just note it as a settlement, which the taxpayers of Akron will pay. Again, we repeat, the city will pay.

A Mental Health Tip For You!

Since Giving Tuesday is coming up, here are some small ways to give back. Whether it’s a compliment, a helping hand, or a simple gesture of appreciation, gratitude can create ripples of positivity in our lives and the lives of those around us.💖

  • Stream and share Growth Spurts music videothis uplifting music video raises awareness of The Right Response while also bringing hope to listeners.

  • Leave a positive note: slip an encouraging note in a coworker’s bag or on a friend’s desk.

  • Pay it forward: buy a coffee or snack for the person in line behind you.

  • Compliment a stranger: give a genuine compliment to someone.

  • Volunteer your time: offer your skills or time to a local charity or community organization. *clears throat* We could always use your help 🙂

  • Help a neighbor: offer to help carry groceries, shovel snow, or run an errand for a neighbor.

  • Send a thank you message: reach out to someone who has impacted your life and express gratitude.

Spread Some Blessings!

The consequences of police violence extend far beyond the loss of life. For families affected, it’s the loss of income, the sacrifice of basic necessities, and the start of a high-cost legal fight. If you have the capacity, consider donating to 1M4. Proceeds help support impacted families and sustain the work of 1M4 toward ending police violence for good.

Sis, we all know the saying “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” This season, let’s make sure we’re taking the time to refill our cups, especially with everything on our plates. Managing stress is essential for staying balanced and energized so we can show up for ourselves and those we care about.

Through our Home for the Holidays campaign, we’re also supporting each other in staying safe and connected this December. By sharing resources like The Right Response, we’re creating a network of care for every Sista, making sure no one has to navigate tough moments alone. Taking care of ourselves and each other helps keep our community strong through the holidays and beyond!

Your Sistas In ALL Of This,
The Ladies of 1M4

PS: Remember to use the hashtags #1M4 #therightresponse #home4theholidays as you amplify and raise awareness of our resources

The Mental Health Literacy Collaborative (MHLC) has officially launched its MHL Aware Certification Training.

Mental Health Literacy (MHL) Aware is a 60-minute training (with an optional certification) that benefits professional, personal, and community needs for knowledge, language, and confidence around the topic of mental health. This training is the first step in guiding people to successfully integrate MHL into the fabric of their community. The Aware training focuses on educating individuals about 1) What MHL is, 2) Why it is beneficial, and 3) How they can bring this information to their community. In addition to these core focus areas, the training provides basic, real-world application strategies. The cost is $30 per person for live trainings and $25 for the asynchronous course. Group rates are also available by contacting info@themhlc.org.
