So… we know our newsletters have been a bit irregular :-\ But trust we’re still working towards healthier and safer Black communities daily. Still advocating and advancing first response that centers people while reducing harm. Still the same melanated women (and allies) who don’t play about you.

We’re just busy and doing the best we can with what we got *shout out to Mariah Carey* 🙂

Next week we have a lot of events you can tap into to be in community with us and let us lift you up. See the events section below or check it out on our website HERE. For more immediate community conversation, join us right now inside our virtual community home HERE We look forward to seeing you in there!

Oh and Giving Tuesday (Dec 2nd) along with Year End Giving (Dec 31st) are swiftly approaching. Keep us at 1M4 top of mind as you gift nonprofits with your financial support. Every donation helps us stand with families impacted by police violence. Expand access and awareness to alternatives to police. Ok, now back our newsletter….

— Erykah Badu

The holidays have a way of stirring up everything from joy to grief, stress, and nostalgia.

Sis, we know this season can bring reminders of who or what we’ve lost, the pressure to show up when we’re running on empty, or the ache of being far from family and support.

Feeling heavy doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful. It means you’re human.

This “Movember” (November), as we honor and uplift men’s health, we’re holding space for our Black sons, fathers, brothers, and partners. The ones we fight to keep safe so they make it home daily.

Too often, they’re the ones most impacted by criminalization, untreated mental health challenges, and systems that fail to protect them.

Through our Home for the Holidays campaign, we’re working to change that by connecting communities to our directory during times of crisis and building pathways that lead home, not into harm.

Share our directory. Start a conversation. And if you can, donate to help us keep bringing our people home safely, in body and in spirit.

Your Expertise is Needed!

We’re completely revamping The Right Response Directory and need your input to ensure it meets our community’s needs.

This critical resource connects you to alternative first-response programs offering compassionate support through peer responders, clinicians, and trained EMTs for calls like welfare checks, noise complaints, traffic incidents, and mental health crises.

Your feedback is vital for us to improve. Please take a few minutes to complete our confidential survey. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

A Mental Health Tip For You

The clocks changed earlier this month, and daylight is getting shorter and shorter. Your body may feel the shift before your mind does.

Take a few minutes each day to tune in somatically: notice your breath, roll your shoulders, stretch your spine, or press your feet firmly into the ground.

These small movements help reset your nervous system, boost energy, and anchor you in the present.

A Mental Health Tip For You!

Spread Some Blessings!

The consequences of police violence extend far beyond the loss of life. For families affected, it’s the loss of income, the sacrifice of basic necessities, and the start of a high-cost legal fight. If you have the capacity, consider donating to 1M4. Proceeds help support impacted families and sustain the work of 1M4 toward ending police violence for good.

How are you feeling, Sis? Sending you all the love! Please know that your Sistas are here whenever you need us.💛

Care, connection, and community are the greatest gifts we can give. By sharing our directory, supporting 1M4 through donations, and joining the Village, we ensure everyone has a chance to make it home safely.

Together, we can close out the year grounded in hope, resilience, and the knowledge that no one has to face the holidays alone.

October 22 is the National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality

October 22 is the National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, organized by the October 22 Coalition. Since 1996, this day has brought people together—those directly impacted by police violence and those standing in solidarity—to resist brutality, mass incarceration, and political repression. As we face rising white supremacy and authoritarian threats, the Coalition continues building a nationwide network of protest and actions we can all take to strengthen our collective resistance. Watch the video above to see 1M4 and others in action, fighting for justice and community protection.

6th Annual Black Mental Wellness Conference

1M4 will be attending the 6th Annual Black Mental Wellness Conference. This year’s theme, Reclaiming Our Power and Protecting Our Peace, centers healing in the Black community, honoring our past, acknowledging the present, and envisioning a liberated future. Over 1,000 attendees—psychologists, educators, advocates, families, and allies—gather to connect, learn, and celebrate.
